Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Chief Mine Engineer to join our growing team as the company ramps up mine operations and production.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Mine Manager, the Chief Mine Engineer will be responsible and accountable for all technical aspects of the open pit mine and providing input into the strategic long-term, medium-term, and short-term planning and mine design. This position will also effectively manage the mining engineering, surveying and geotechnical teams ensuring quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner in line with plans and budgets.
This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 4/3 rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Mine Engineering team and mine engineering activities.
Develop and maintain long-term mine plans to meet production targets and ensure alignment with operational goals.
Develop and manage budget and forecast mine planning.
Establish, execute, and effectively monitor daily, weekly, and 3-month plans.
Regularly review life of mine strategies to endure that the stated corporate objectives are achieved.
In consultation with the mine team, evaluate methods to optimize ore extraction and mining sequence and prepare trade-off analyses as required.
Coordinate mine engineering work with geology and mine operations.
Troubleshoot problems that arise; analyze and recommend solutions.
Review and approve project technical documentation, including drawings and specifications.
Supervise the mine engineering team in compilation of production data and reporting, manage workforce training progression, formal performance evaluations, and succession planning to ensure the development of employees.
Manage performance by setting clear expectations and ensuring employees have the tools and knowledge to complete the work as planned.
Enforce compliance with federal and provincial mining regulations and corporate safety policies.
Demonstrate ownership and accountability for site safety by leading safety meetings, field level risk assessments (FLRA, JHA), and incident investigations.
Review vendor contracts and monitor daily consumables to minimize unit cost per tonne
Collaborate with the site Procurement team to manage and review site contractor costs.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the mine engineering team.
Develop high level of communication with all departments and commitment to continuously improving current procedures.

Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering.
P.Eng. designation (or eligibility for registration with PEGNL).
A minimum of 10 years of open-pit mining experience with a proven track record of driving operational excellence.
At least 5 years of supervisory experience in a mining environment.
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong strategic and LOM planning skills.
Advance knowledge of mine scheduling, Cut of Grade optimization, and ore control.
Strong analytical skills with a strong attention to detail coupled with a practical understanding of mine operations.
Ability to interpret engineering plans and offer sound technical expertise with regards to mine design.
Strong leadership skills and ability to create a positive work environment.
Self-motivated and safety conscious.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstratable project management skills.
Advanced knowledge/expertise in mine engineering principles and techniques.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of open pit optimization, pit design, and production scheduling along with the use of mine software packages is required.
Good computer skills with competence using Microsoft Office products.
