Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Senior Production Engineer to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Senior Production Engineer is responsible for leading the production engineering functions for the successful execution of all day-to-day mining operation activities.
This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 14 days in / 14 days out rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Leadership
Directly manage and develop a team of five: 2x Short Range Engineers, 2x Drill & Blast Engineers, and 1x Medium Term Planner.
Provide hands-on coaching to establish clear performance standards and technical workflows.
Establish a collaborative environment between engineering and mine operations. Process
Design and implement standard production engineering processes (Bench master plans, Spatial compliance verification).
Implement robust QA/QC protocols for drill and blast to minimize dilution and optimize fragmentation.
Implement and refine Deswik workflows to ensure integration between weekly and medium-term plans. Mine Planning & Execution
Oversee the creation of technically sound and operationally achievable weekly, rolling 3-month and 12-24 month mine plans.
Monitor site KPIs (drilled metres, blasted tonnes, planning compliance) and provide actionable claw-back plans when targets are missed.
Lead daily, weekly production meetings to align mine operations and technical services. Safety & Environment
Ensure all designs as well as blasting activities comply with local regulatory and corporate safety standards.
Promote a “safety by design” approach within the production engineering function.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering
8+ years of experience in open-pit, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory capacity, and 2 years in gold mining.
Advanced proficiency in Deswik is essential. Experience with blast design software will also be considered.
Current P.Eng designation or eligible for registration.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
Previous experience managing multiple contractors simultaneously as part of the mining team.
Development, coaching, and training coordination of all direct reports to help the team succeed.
Proven success in large scale industrial projects.
Ability to interpret engineering plans and offer sound technical expertise with regards to mine design.
Knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
Effective time management skills and able to manage multiple priorities.
Good computer skills with competence using Microsoft Office products.
Ability to influence and inspire others and manage cross-functional relationships.
A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
