Equinox is currently inviting applications for a Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our growing team as the company ramps up mine operations and production.
Position Summary
The Heavy Duty Mechanic is a team member of the Maintenance department and is responsible for repairs, troubleshooting, adjustments, overhauls and maintaining mobile heavy-duty equipment. This role must ensure work is performed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental and legislative requirements.
This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Promote and provide a safe workplace and ensure proper and immediate corrective action is taken as required.
Repair, rebuild, overhaul, and perform routine maintenance work on mobile machinery and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine the extent of repairs required on various types of Mobile equipment. Document all details of repairs into the MMS system.
Troubleshoot and adjust equipment. Repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems using a variety of electronic troubleshooting tools, hand, and power tools.
Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure adherence to the manufacture’s specifications with emphasis of Safe operations.
Respond to breakdowns to troubleshoot, identify any parts required and complete any repairs or installations needed. Document parts in the work order to close the work order.
Conduct inspection of equipment, tools site level assessment of the work area and complete all documentation.
Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the installation and repair of machinery.
Work with outside contractors and service providers as required.
Actively participate in orientation and training programs.
Complete final inspections to ensure that each work order information has been entered and completed correctly and all safety standards have been met.
Maintain workplace areas for cleanliness and ready for use.
Participate in continuous learning of new techniques/equipment to operate safely while maintaining productivity (training).
Promote a positive work environment for all team members.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
This position Includes working day & night rotations & must be willing to work outside in adverse conditions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic (Red Seal) Certification.
Minimum 1 year Journeyperson experience.
HD Mechanic: CAT Experience an asset
Experience maintaining and repairing excavators, dozers, loaders, cranes, graders, haul trucks, highway vehicles, and mining equipment.
Experience working in a remote mining or industrial environment is preferred. Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites.
Relevant qualifications in appropriate area of expertise.
Ability to provide mentorship, coaching and training to an apprentice.
Strong knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, prints, technical drawings, schematics, and procedural manuals.
Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships.
Ability to work in a team setting or independently.
A valid driver’s license and driver’s abstract required.
