One of Equinox Gold’s cornerstone Canadian assets, the Valentine Gold Mine (VGM) is a new, world-class, long-life gold mine located in the central region of Newfoundland and Labrador. The mine achieved first gold in September 2025 and commercial production in November 2025 and, when operating at full capacity, will be the largest gold mine in Atlantic Canada and a significant economic driver and employer in the province. Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Mine Operations Supervisor to join our growing team as the company ramps up mine operations and production.
Position Summary
The Mine Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and productive movement of materials within the mine site. This includes managing operators, coordinating equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols and production targets.

This position is located at the Valentine Gold Mine site on a 14 day in/14 day out rotation.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Team SupervisionManage and optimize truck, shovel, drilling, and blasting functions to optimize production and minimize operating costs.
Collaborate with department leads to ensure understanding of mine plans and mine maintenance activities to coordinate mining activities in an effective and efficient manner.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide feedback and training as needed.
Operations ManagementPlan and oversee daily production schedules to meet operational targets.
Monitor equipment performance, utilization, and operator efficiency.
Collaborate with the dispatch and technical teams to optimize performance and production.
Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Technical Services, Maintenance, and Processing) to ensure smooth operations.
Safety Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to mine safety standards and regulations.
Conduct daily safety briefings and inspections to minimize risks.
Lead investigations and identify hazards, implementing effective corrective measures.
Environmental ResponsibilityEnsure all mining activities comply with environmental regulations and minimize environmental impact.
Participate in sustainability initiatives as required by the company.
Education and Experience Required:
Minimum of 10 years of open pit mining experience.
At least 5 years of supervisory experience in an open pit mining operation
Minimum high school diploma; or a significant amount of related experience in a similar role.
Experience in a remote work site, and rotational schedule is required.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements at remote sites. Strong leadership and communication skills.
Development, coaching and training coordination of all direct reports to help team succeed.
Proven success in mid to large scale open pit mine settings. Relevant qualifications in appropriate area of expertise.
Ability to interpret mine plans and offer sound technical expertise with regards to mine plans.
Knowledge of the OHS, mining, and construction regulations.
Effective time management skills and able to manage multiple priorities.
Good computer skills with competence using Microsoft Office products.
Ability to influence and inspire others and manage cross-functional relationships.
Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
A valid driver license and a driver’s abstract.
